He is a politician, a Member of Parliament in Bangladesh and runs an NGO to help poor people of his Country.

However, he has been a burden to the team now, as his performance has become very poor in this current World Cup edition. He was criticized for bowling the very first over of the innings against India and pulled off from the spell immediately. He bowled five expensive overs by giving 36 runs. In the entire World Cup 2019 edition, he bowled 49 overs, by giving 315 runs for only one wicket.

On enquiring the Bangladesh Cricket Coach on Mashrafe retirement, he replied, “That really is a question for the Board and Mash to answer. I don’t really want to get involved in that if that’s okay”.

For Bangladesh team to continue with its fantastic form, and to allow it to grow like a big team, Mashrafe would have to think about his retirement, allowing youngsters a chance.
