Legend of chaturmas
According to the legend, in the ancient times, King Bali was the most glorious and Danveer king, whose virtue Pratap was discussed in the three worlds. Once Lord Vishnu thought of testing the charity of King Bali. Subsequently, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Vamana and reached King Bali. At that time, King Bali paid respects to Brahmin Vamana and asked the purpose of his arrival.
Then Lord Vishnu said- O demon king! Have heard a lot about your charity. I have come to ask you for this. I need three steps of land to live. Hearing this, King Bali came in ridicule and said - You will definitely be helped. After this, he asked the Brahmin to take three steps of land.
At that time Lord Vishnu measured in one step and measured the sky in the second step. If the third step King Bali did not have any land left, he gave his head at the feet of God and said that you will always live in Hades. After this, he asked God, O Vamana Dev, to show your form, who are you? At that time Lord Vishnu showed his form to King Bali.

Goddess Lakshmi became distressed to know that Lord Vishnu will now remain in the Hades. Then mother Lakshmi tied Raja Bali with a sutra and made her brother and pleaded for God to release her bondage. Bali accepted the mother's plea. However, he asked for a boon to stay in Hades for four months. Over time, Lord Vishnu sleeps in the Patal Lok in Chaturmas as promised to King Bali.
